# Myobrace for children

**Myobrace is an orthodontic treatment for children in which the child wears a removable trainer for one to two hours during the day and overnight, and does exercises for breathing, tongue position and swallowing. The aim is to change the habits that hold back proper jaw growth and tooth alignment. At SF Dent the Myobrace appliance is 155.00 € on the price list – the price covers the appliance only; check-ups and later stages are charged separately.**

This page is for parents of children aged roughly 5 to 15 who notice that their child's teeth are coming in crooked, that the child breathes through the mouth, sucks a thumb or rests the tongue incorrectly. Whether Myobrace suits your child is decided only after an examination.

## What Myobrace is

Myobrace is a system of removable oral trainers (appliances) made of soft material and chosen to match the child's age and treatment stage. Unlike braces, which straighten teeth that have already come through, Myobrace targets the causes of poor development – habits such as mouth breathing, incorrect tongue position, incorrect swallowing and thumb sucking. Treatment combines wearing the trainer with daily exercises.

We have written in detail about the benefits for children and adults in the article ["What is Myobrace and Its Positive Effects in Children and Adults"](https://sfdent.eu/en/blog/183-what-is-myobrace-and-its-positive-effects-in-children-and-adults).

## Why habits affect the teeth

A child's jaws grow over many years, and their growth is shaped by the muscles of the face, tongue and lips. When a child breathes through the mouth, the tongue usually rests low instead of against the palate. The upper jaw may then stay narrower and leave too little room for the teeth. Incorrect swallowing, where the tongue pushes against the teeth, and thumb sucking can also move teeth out of place. That is why Myobrace combines the trainer with exercises – the aim is for the child to get used to breathing through the nose, resting the tongue in the right place and swallowing correctly.

## When to consider Myobrace

- the child breathes mostly through the mouth, including while asleep;
- teeth are coming in crooked or are crowded;
- the child sucks a thumb or has other habits that strain the teeth and jaws;
- the upper and lower teeth do not meet properly;
- the tongue pushes between the teeth when speaking or swallowing.

Myobrace is not suitable for every child or every problem. Some cases need other orthodontic treatment, and sometimes Myobrace is used as a first stage before braces or aligners.

## Myobrace price

| Service | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Examination | 30.00€ |
| Myobrace appliance (check-ups and later stages are charged separately) | 155.00€ |

Prices are from the clinic’s price list. The final cost depends on your case and is confirmed after an examination. [See the full price list](https://sfdent.eu/en/pricing)

On the clinic's price list the Myobrace appliance is 155.00 €, and the price covers the appliance only. Check-ups and later stages of treatment are charged separately. Treatment usually goes through several trainers, so how many will be needed and for how long – and therefore the total cost – depends on the child's age and the problem, and is confirmed at a consultation after an examination.

## Who provides the treatment

Children at SF Dent are seen by our children's dentist. For more about caring for children's teeth see [Children's dentist](https://sfdent.eu/en/services/pediatric-dentistry).

## How treatment works – steps

1. **Examination.** The dentist examines the child's teeth, bite and habits – how they breathe, swallow and where they rest the tongue – and decides whether Myobrace is suitable.
2. **Choosing the trainer.** A trainer suited to the child's age and stage of development is selected.
3. **Training.** The child and parent learn how to wear and clean the trainer and which exercises to do every day.
4. **Wearing it at home.** The trainer is worn for one to two hours during the day and overnight while the child sleeps, and the exercises are done daily.
5. **Check-ups.** At regular check-ups the dentist follows progress and moves on to the next trainer when needed.

## What it takes from the child and the parent

Myobrace only works if it is worn regularly. The parent plays an important part: reminding the child about the trainer and the exercises, checking that the child sleeps with it, and bringing the child to check-ups. If the child has a blocked nose or enlarged tonsils or adenoids, this can make nose breathing difficult – in that case the dentist may recommend seeing an ENT specialist.

## How long it lasts

Myobrace is not a one-off procedure – it usually takes months and often longer, depending on the child's age, the problem and above all how consistently the child wears the trainer and does the exercises. You will get an estimate for your child after the examination.

## Tips for parents and caring for the trainer

- The result depends largely on regular wear. Help your child make the trainer part of the bedtime routine.
- Rinse the trainer in cold water after each use and keep it in its case.
- Do not wash the trainer in hot water or leave it in the sun.
- The child keeps brushing twice a day and coming for check-ups.
- If the trainer is damaged or the child complains of pain, contact the clinic.
