# Dental veneers

**Veneers are thin shells of ceramic or composite that are bonded to the visible surface of the front teeth to change their shape and colour or to mask minor irregularities in how they line up. Veneers do not move teeth. At SF Dent ceramic veneers are 430.00 € per veneer (one tooth) and a composite veneer (direct bonding) 145.00 € per tooth on the price list; how many veneers you need and which material suits you is decided after an examination.**

Veneers are a cosmetic treatment. They do not treat decay or gum disease – if those are present, they are treated first. That is why every veneer treatment starts with an examination.

## When veneers are recommended

- discolouration that does not respond to [whitening](https://sfdent.eu/en/services/whitening);
- worn, cracked or chipped front teeth;
- uneven shape or different lengths of teeth;
- small gaps between teeth (diastemas);
- front teeth with many old fillings.

Veneers are not suitable for badly broken-down teeth, where there is not enough healthy enamel, or with untreated gum disease. With heavy tooth grinding (bruxism) the risk of chipping is higher, and the dentist may suggest another solution or a protective night guard.

## Ceramic or composite veneers

Veneers are made from two main kinds of material:

- **Ceramic (porcelain) veneers** are made in a dental laboratory from an impression. Ceramic resists staining and wear and reflects light much like natural enamel. They need at least two visits and usually the removal of a thin layer of enamel.
- **Composite veneers** are shaped directly in the mouth from the same material as bonding. They are often done in one visit, preserve more of the tooth and are easier to repair, but over time they can pick up colour and need polishing or replacing.

The choice between them depends on the condition of your teeth, your bite, the result you want and your budget. The dentist will explain the advantages and limits of each option for your case.

## Veneers price

| Service | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Examination | 30.00€ |
| Ceramic veneers | 430.00€ |
| Bonding – composite veneer (direct) | 145.00€ |
| Bonding | 145.00€ |

Prices are from the clinic’s price list. The final cost depends on your case and is confirmed after an examination. [See the full price list](https://sfdent.eu/en/pricing)

On SF Dent's price list ceramic veneers are 430.00 € per veneer (one tooth), and a composite veneer built up directly in the mouth (bonding) is 145.00 € per tooth. The total depends on the number of teeth and the preparation needed; at the examination the dentist will tell you what suits your case and what it will cost, before treatment begins.

## Who performs the treatment

Cosmetic treatment at SF Dent is led by [Dr. Sandy Festok](https://sfdent.eu/en/team/dr-sandy-festok), the clinic's founder, who has trained in aesthetic dentistry and direct composite veneering. Ceramic veneers are made by a dental laboratory from an impression of your teeth.

## How veneers are fitted – steps

1. **Consultation.** Examination of the teeth and gums, a discussion of the result you want and the choice of material. Decay or gum problems are treated first if needed.
2. **Preparing the teeth.** For most veneers a thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of the tooth to make room for the shell. This step cannot be undone, so it is discussed in advance.
3. **Impression and temporary veneers.** For ceramic veneers an impression is taken and the laboratory makes the veneers from it. Temporary veneers may be fitted in the meantime.
4. **Try-in and bonding.** The veneers are tried in, the colour and shape are checked and, once you approve, they are bonded with adhesive cement.
5. **Follow-up.** The bite is checked and a follow-up visit is booked.

## How long it takes

Ceramic veneers usually need at least two visits – one for preparation and the impression, one for bonding – with time between them for the laboratory work. Composite veneers and bonding are often done in a single visit. The exact schedule is agreed at the consultation.

## Aftercare

- Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth every day.
- Do not bite hard objects – nails, pens, ice, shells.
- If you grind your teeth at night, wear the night guard if one has been recommended.
- Come for regular check-ups and [professional cleaning](https://sfdent.eu/en/services/scaling) so the edges of the veneers and the gums around them are monitored.

## Veneers or bonding?

Both improve the look of the front teeth, but they differ:

- **How they are made:** ceramic veneers are made in a laboratory; [bonding](https://sfdent.eu/en/services/dental-bonding) is applied directly in the mouth.
- **Tooth preparation:** veneers usually need a thin layer of enamel removed; bonding needs minimal or no drilling.
- **Visits:** veneers need at least two; bonding usually one.
- **Durability:** ceramic resists staining and wear better; composite may need polishing or repair over time.
- **Price:** bonding is 145.00 € per tooth and a ceramic veneer 430.00 € per tooth on the price list.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much do veneers cost?

On SF Dent's price list ceramic veneers are 430.00 € per veneer (one tooth) and a composite veneer (direct bonding) 145.00 € per tooth. The total depends on the number of teeth and the preparation needed. An examination costs 30.00 €.

### Veneers or bonding – which should I choose?

Bonding is quicker, preserves more of the tooth and costs less, but stains and wears more easily. Ceramic veneers are more durable, but need a thin layer of enamel removed and at least two visits. The choice depends on your teeth and your goal and is made after an examination.

### Do teeth have to be filed down for veneers?

For most veneers a thin layer of enamel is removed from the front of the tooth to make room for the shell. This step cannot be undone, so it is discussed in detail at the consultation.

### How long do veneers last?

It depends on the material, your bite, your habits and how you care for them. Ceramic veneers usually last longer than composite restorations. Regular check-ups help catch any problem early.

### Does getting veneers hurt?

Preparing the teeth is usually done under local anaesthetic so it is comfortable. Afterwards there may be some short-lived sensitivity to hot and cold.

### Can veneers be whitened?

No. Ceramic and composite do not change colour when whitened. If you also want to lighten your other teeth, whitening is done before the veneers so their shade can be matched to the new colour.

### How many visits do veneers take?

Ceramic veneers usually take at least two – preparation and impression, then bonding. Composite veneers are often done in a single visit.
