A tooth extraction is a procedure in which the dentist removes a tooth that cannot be saved with treatment. At SF Dent the price depends on the type of tooth: for example a wisdom tooth extraction is 200.00 €, and an impacted (unerupted) wisdom tooth is 350.00 € on the clinic's price list. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic.
Dentists aim to keep your own tooth whenever possible. Extraction is recommended when a tooth is badly broken down, has an advanced infection that cannot be cured, is very loose, is a wisdom tooth causing problems, or for orthodontic reasons.

The price depends on the tooth – how many roots it has, whether it is broken, and whether a wisdom tooth has come through, has partly come through (semi-impacted) or is fully in the bone (impacted). Anaesthesia and suture removal are separate lines on the price list. We will tell you the exact price for your case after an examination.
SF Dent works with the NHIF (НЗОК), Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund. Some extraction work can be done under the health fund within the NHIF's annual package if your health insurance rights are uninterrupted. We will confirm when you book whether your extraction can be covered. Read more on the page Dentist under the NHIF (НЗОК).
Extractions at SF Dent are performed by Dr. Sandy Festok. Children are seen by our children's dentist, including for the removal of baby teeth.
Removing an erupted tooth usually takes a short time – often from a few minutes to about half an hour, including preparation. Removing an impacted wisdom tooth is more complex and takes longer. The gum heals over a few weeks and the bone takes longer. The dentist will tell you after the examination how long your extraction is likely to take.
Once the anaesthetic has worn off, start with soft, lukewarm foods – yoghurt, mash, soup (not hot), porridge. Chew on the other side. Avoid hard, sticky and very hot foods and alcohol for the first days. Return to your usual diet gradually as the socket stops being sensitive.
Detailed instructions are in our article "Instructions After Tooth Extraction: Ensuring a Smooth Recovery".
Do not stop a medicine prescribed by another doctor on your own – the dentist will decide whether any change is needed and, if so, will consult your doctor.
Wisdom teeth are the last molars and often do not have enough room to come through properly. Not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. Removal is recommended, for example, with repeated inflammation of the gum around the wisdom tooth, decay that cannot be treated, damage to the neighbouring tooth, or when an impacted wisdom tooth is causing problems. The decision is made after an examination and an X-ray.
The information on this page is general and does not replace an examination by a dentist.

Extraction is done under local anaesthetic, so during the procedure you usually feel only pressure. Once the anaesthetic wears off it is normal to have some pain and swelling for a few days, which gradually ease.
Pain and swelling are usually strongest in the first two or three days and then settle. If pain gets worse after the third day or you have a fever, contact the dentist.
For the first 24 hours do not spit hard, rinse vigorously or drink through a straw. Do not smoke for at least a few days, and do not eat until the anaesthetic has worn off.
If the wound was stitched, the dentist will tell you when to come back for the stitches to be removed – usually after about a week.
